See who’s at your door, even at night, with no messy wires to deal with. But how well does it actually work? Luckily, I got the chance to test this security camera out for myself.

The Rock Space C1 Smart Wireless Outdoor Camera With Spotlight is a well-made, sturdy security camera that works via Wi-Fi. There are no wires to install – just a single adjustable mount. Of course, you’ll need to either take it down to charge it or install it near an outlet to charge it without removing it. With the 9,000 mAh battery, you don’t have to charge it often, as the battery will last up to six months per charge.

It’s designed to work both inside and outside. Thanks to the rockhome app, you can check in on what’s going on at any time. Easily set up schedules to receive alerts, create activity zones, set off alarms, talk to someone, turn on a spotlight, and save video clips and images.

You can store video and images on a microSD (not included) or via the cloud (up to seven days of video alert recordings for free). All recordings are accessible via the app.

While you can install the camera indoors, it’s safe to install outdoors thanks to an IP65 enclosure, keeping it safe from the elements. With 1080P FHD video, you’ll easily be able to see clear details. And, at night, you’ll still see what’s going on, but you can also turn on the spotlight for color video at night.

Not only can you record videos, but you can also record sound. Plus, use the app to talk to delivery people, babysitters, visitors, and more via the microphone.

While most security cameras include motion sensor alerts, the C1 lets you subscribe to rockhome Awareness. This includes AI Analysis to only send alerts for what’s important to you, including people, pets, vehicles, and package deliveries. Customize each option and skip alerts that aren’t important. You can also set up an activity zone to only monitor specific areas.

It’s designed to monitor smaller areas with a recommended installation height of around 6 feet.

What’s Included

The Rock Space C1 Smart Wireless Outdoor Camera With Spotlight includes the camera (with two antennas), reset key, user manual, mount with screws and anchors, and charging cable. There isn’t much to keep up with, thanks to it being wireless.

The charging cable is a standard USB-A, but the camera itself has a custom end. It’d be nice to see a more universal USB-C charging port in case the cable gets lost, but that’s just a minor gripe.

Connecting and Installing the Camera

The first step is to download the free rockhome app. The app walks you through the connection process, but you’ll need to be on a 2.4 GHz network to connect. You’ll be prompted to turn the camera on, which is located underneath the camera under the silicone cover.

Of course, you need to setup a free account. You can share the camera with other users later on from within the app. Pay close attention to the Wi-Fi signal strength when choosing a location. The better the signal, the better the video quality and the more stable the video is overall. Installation is fairly easy. I started by choosing a location about 6.5 feet above the ground as directed. This allows the motion sensors to work better and gives you a sharper focus on the area.

You’ll need a drill for installation. Use the mount (without the camera attached) as a guide to drill the holes and insert the anchors, then screw the mount into place using three screws. Finally, screw the camera onto the mount.

It took several tries to get the camera to stay in place. In fact, a few times it just flopped forward. After taking it off the mount several times and putting it back on, it finally stayed in place. However, it wouldn’t take much pressure at all for it to fall forward.

Using the Camera

Once everything was mounted, it was time to see how well the Rock Space C1 Smart Wireless Outdoor Camera With Spotlight actually worked. The app is incredibly intuitive. Simply press play and start viewing your camera in real-time. Check the library for any recorded events.

You can set up motion detection sensitivity, zones, and more. Some features, as mentioned earlier, are only available in the Awareness Plan. You can check out the available plan tiers in the app, but the Basic tier starts at $2.99/month.

The video during the day looks great. It’s clear and you can easily hear any sounds going on around the camera. At night, it’s the typical black/white night vision until I turned on the spotlight. As promised, the night vision was in color, which looked surprisingly good.

The only complaint I have is the motion sensor doesn’t seem to be as sensitive as it should be. On the highest sensitivity, I sometimes wouldn’t receive an alert if someone walked by. And if anything was past 10 to 15 feet away, I never got an alert at all. I also had the camera set to not have a cooldown period between alerts.

On the other hand, when I did get alerts, I had the option to turn on an alarm, which is very loud. Talking to someone through the camera actually worked really well, too.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Rock Space C1 Smart Wireless Outdoor Camera With Spotlight is a good security camera for monitoring porches, doors, and smaller areas. The video is crystal clear both day and night, and you get color night vision. The app is super easy to use and even includes seven days of cloud storage (up to 1 GB at a time) for free.

The mount didn’t hold the camera as tightly as I’d expect, though that could just be a fluke with the mount I received. Also, the motion detection could be more sensitive.
