Whether you’re a creative professional or a serious gamer, a second monitor is great to have, but you can’t bring them on the road with you, at least not easily. The INNOCN 15K1F Portable 15.6″ OLED Monitor is the perfect solution to this problem. It’s a full-fledged 15.6-inch OLED monitor that just happens to be light, compact, and eminently portable. It’s also very likely the best portable monitor we’ve seen to date.

Specs and Features

The INNOCN 15K1F Portable 15.6″ OLED Monitor aims to do one thing and do it well. Unlike its cousin the PF15-PRO, you won’t find a touchscreen here, nor will you find a built-in battery.

Instead, the main draw of the 15K1F is its 15.6-inch 1080p OLED display panel that provides up to 400 nits of brightness and a 100,000:1 contrast ratio. For those who require color accuracy, the monitor reproduces 100% DCI-P3 color gamut.

If you’re a gamer, you’ll appreciate the faster response time of the OLED panel. This isn’t a monitor for ultra-fast frame rates, as the refresh rate is the standard 60 Hz. The wide viewing angle is great for side-by-side gaming.

The monitor works well with laptops – but also phones, tablets, video game consoles, and more. Thanks to the built-in speakers, you don’t even have to worry about headphones.

Build Quality and Design

Because I reviewed the INNOCN PF15-PRO, I had a good idea what to expect here. While I initially expected that monitor to be flimsy and fragile, it was anything but. As a result, I was expecting the 15K1F to feel solid.

My expectations were correct, as the INNOCN 15K1F feels every bit as solid as the PF15-PRO. What I didn’t expect is that this monitor would be even thinner, yet still feel just as solid.

The thinner profile makes sense in part, thanks to the OLED panel. The lack of a touchscreen and battery also help make the package even thinner. If you’re carrying the 15K1F with you every day, that difference will be noticeable.

Display

The PF15-PRO is a fantastic monitor, so even with the OLED panel, I wasn’t expecting the INNOCN 15K1F to look noticeably better. In some cases, the differences were harder to see, but anywhere where there was a wide variety of color on screen, the OLED display made all the difference.

There’s also a slight increase in sharpness. Considering the size, you may not notice that this is a 1080p screen instead of a 4K one. The increased brightness and contrast also make this great for bright rooms.

To help keep your eyes in good shape, the INNOCN 15K1F features a low blue light mode, which should also help ensure a good night’s sleep. The monitor also features DC dimming, so you don’t need to worry about flickering at lower levels of brightness.

Connecting to a Laptop

While you can use the INNOCN 15K1F Portable 15.6″ OLED Monitor with plenty of devices, the common use case for most people will be using it with a laptop. You can connect via USB-C if your computer supports it or to a full-size HDMI port using the included cable.

In my testing, I used a 2017 MacBook Pro as well as an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15, as I did to test the PF15-PRO. No matter whether you prefer macOS or Windows, the process of connecting to the monitor is easy and simple.

Just plug in the power supply for the monitor, then plug the appropriate cable into the ports on your computer and the monitor. Power the monitor on, and everything should connect automatically.

If you’re using both inputs at once or your setup is non-standard in some other way, you can always change the input via the on-screen display.

Other Devices

You can use the INNOCN 15K1F as a monitor with any device that outputs HDMI, so this includes streaming boxes, Blu-ray players, game consoles, and more.

You can also plug in mobile devices, but because this model doesn’t have a touchscreen, it isn’t as ideal as with the PF15-PRO. That said, if all you want to do is watch a movie on your phone but on a bigger screen, you can absolutely do that.

The 15K1F works better as a portable monitor for a video game console like the Nintendo Switch. It’s much bigger than using the Switch’s display in kickstand mode, and the wider viewing angle makes it great for multiple players.

Is the INNOCN 15K1F Right for You?

We were already big fans of the predecessor to this monitor, the PF15-PRO. The INNOCN 15K1F Portable 15.6″ OLED Monitor takes everything that was great about that monitor, upgrades the panel to OLED, and houses it in an even thinner, lighter package than the original that still manages to feel sturdy and robust and is just $369.99.

The only issue is that here, you need a power source, unlike the battery packed into the PF15-PRO. That monitor also features a touchscreen, which isn’t a feature we really missed here, but if it’s key to your workflow, that’s worth keeping in mind.

That said, the sharpness and color accuracy make it a fantastic choice for anywhere this matters, whether it’s color grading video footage or just enjoying a scenic landscape in a video game.
