Elon Musk Quits as CEO of Twitter

Ask any regular Twitter user about their experience on the social media platform over the last six months, and it will probably be described as a dumpster fire. Since billionaire Elon Musk took over as CEO last year, several changes have raised the heckles of many. His biggest transgressions include removing the blue verification checkmark, charging for it, and tweaking the algorithm that messed up the feed. But his time at the helm has (finally) come to an end.

Before it happened: co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey admitted that Elon Musk isn’t the right person to lead Twitter.

Stepping Down as CEO

Musk has only been in the Twitter driving seat for a few months, but many will agree that he’s caused irreparable damage to the platform. Whether he’s taken all the dismayed comments to heart or simply not interested anymore, Musk tweeted that he’s stepping down in his role as chief executive officer.

“Excited to announce that I’ve hired a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks! My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops,” the tweet reads. It’s interesting to note that the new appointee will be female, as that narrows down the list of potential candidates, since he’s given no indication of who he hired for the job.

However, there is no shortage of speculation, with the strongest rumors pointing toward Linda Yaccarino, the head of advertising and partnerships for NBCUniversal. According to one report, Musk is “in talks” with her for the role, while another report says that Musk “plans” to give it to her. Even a former colleague, under the condition of anonymity, said, “She’s tough as [expletive] nails, and she’s always wanted this job. It’s perfect.”
