I’d agree with you, though I think we can also both agree that Wayland has come a long way in the last 2 years. If I may be frank, my own problems stem mostly from how XWayland behaves, especially with Nvidia hardware. There are moments when windows using it just flicker uncontrollably until I close and open them again, etc.

Of course, that depends on the specific wlroots implementation. In KDE I do not get this issue so often, though it’s still present sometimes.

I’m curious, what bothers you the most about Wayland?

I log in the old neck-beard command line way. Wayland can have problem’s.Using only one desktop-KDE. Wayland is not fully complete. There are several thing’s you will have problems with.Too many to list here. I still use xorg.If wayland ever becomes fully complete. I might change.

Comment on How to Create a Minimalist Kanban in Linux with Kanboard by Richard Steven Hack https://www.maketecheasier.com/create-kanban-linux-with-kanboard/#comment-120568 Tue, 25 Jul 2023 03:38:50 +0000 https://admin.maketecheasier.com/?post_type=pitch&p=609819#comment-120568 If you don’t want to run a Web server on your system to use Kanboard, try this Kanban alternative: Brisqi. I have no connection to the developer. I just use it and it’s awesome. You can use the free version with some limits, spend $40 for a lifetime local use without limits or subscribe at $50/year for cloud sync with end-to-end encryption and mobile apps. One of the few apps I was willing to pay for.

It always helps me to resolve problems with path too long or filename too long. Thank you.

Comment on What Is Parabola Linux and How to Install It by dragonmouth https://www.maketecheasier.com/parabola-linux-guide/#comment-120462 Sun, 23 Jul 2023 19:47:38 +0000 https://admin.maketecheasier.com/?post_type=pitch&p=595655#comment-120462 Even though I use Linux, I do not consider myself a l33t, ubergeek. I am not too proud to use GParted to pre-partition my disk(s) prior to installing a Linux distro. This way I don’t have to have esoteric, cryptic and unintuitive terminal commands memorized. It is way too easy to mistype a command or an option and bork the partitioning process. GParted provides me with positive feedback and a record of all my action. If I make a mistake, it is easy to correct.

Besides, this is the 21st century. We no longer need to use incantations and spells to install our distros (Sorcery Linux excepted). We can now use a modern invention called a “GUI”. We don’t need to prove our machismo by using CLI.

Assuming that I have a virgin HDD (i.e. it does not have Microsoft Windows installed on it), do I need to create a UEFI partition if the hardware of my PC support UEFI?
The whole UEFI thing is very confusing to me…

With the exception of TOR, they all harvest user data, with Google Chrome being the worst offender. What good is “Best centralized Web experience” (whatever that means) if all the user data is hoovered up? Number of users DOES NOT equal “BEST”. Internet Explorer had a huge number of users even though it was a piece of garbage.

NO software can be considered the “BEST” unless it prioritizes PRIVACY and SECURITY.

It’s my favorite and primary. Dillo is a solid alternative for local pages that are mostly document-centric (ie, simpler html) because it’s so fast!

Mullvad is an up and comer. I haven’t really tested it yet but it’s suppose to be a privacy-focused web browser on a Firefox (Tor) backend. It may give my Librewolf some competition is this space (but they need to prove they’re in it for the long haul and that updates are regular).

Lastly, I like Flashpeak Slimjet for occasional pages. I don’t think the modifications to it’s chrome underpinnings are open source and I know I should stay away… but I like it. It’s very fast on my Linux system too!

Comment on Orbic Myra 5G Smartphone Review by TheStubbornTruth https://www.maketecheasier.com/review/orbic-myra-5g-smartphone/#comment-120178 Mon, 17 Jul 2023 23:28:01 +0000 https://admin.maketecheasier.com/?p=446623#comment-120178 I got my orbic myra free from visible, i paid for the visible + plan: i have no service ever, the cameras are horrible blurry trash that cant focus on anything, i cant scan qr, datamax, or any barcode that my OnePlus8T or iphone 5s where capable of scanning with no issue, the aux works sometimes maybe like 1/7… try plugging and unplugging it enough times and it will maybe work, the screen time might be up to 10hours but im at 34% as i write this and i wasnt using my phone for the majority of my 8 hour shift..so thats burnt, you can bypass the lockscreen without fingerprint/facr scan: this will happen a lot in your pocket, not that it fits in any pocket to begin with so be ready to carry this useless junk everywhere, your not buying a case because nobody makes them, the flashlight likes to turn on during calls, pandora and spotify will start playing even when completely closed with the phone having been sitting on the table untouched for hours, this phone cant handle gps… the screen will pulse its brighness… not that you will ever have a signal to use the gps or calling or data, dont worry about texts inturrupting you at work.. you dont get those because this thing cant pick up a signal even while sitting on the wifi modem…but hey nobody needs service or wifi to work on a phone anyway right…i cant make this shit up..this phone is beyond a dud, if i had paid money i would have gotten my money back. This is not acceptable in any regard. I stongly advice a flip phone over this pice of junk, atleast you will get a signal. In the less than 2 weeks ive had this brand new phone i can say with confidence this is the 3rd worse device ive ever had the displeasure of operating falling only barely ahead of the walmart free phone for employees wich this phone only scores better because of the removable storage and aux….the walmart phone could get calls, texts and even surf the web….if only those aux and removable storage features worked right…oh yeah i didnt even mention the storage issues, dont use the micro sd for more than pictures the software cant handle this feature yet…it works…just dont do what i did and pop in a 512gb samsung pro mircro sd only to learn the os cant handle it, but go ahead use 100-200 gb of space and you will figure out what i mean. This is complete trash. I cant even get a trade in value for this pice of junk from any company, not even if i tell them its new in an unopened box. This was just my personal experience perhaps you will fare better, if your thinking i just have a defective device and i should get a replacement under warranty i might be inclined to agree however ive lost count of the number of hours i have put on hold and talking to reps…i was supposed to get a callback 4days ago… needless to say i dont expect to ever receive this warranty device: if anyone knows the billing department info for reliance communications or visible i would like to send both invoices accordingly for the theft of my time.

Comment on How to Block Pop-Up Windows in Chrome and Other Major Browsers by Steve https://www.maketecheasier.com/block-pop-up-windows-in-browsers/#comment-120014 Fri, 14 Jul 2023 21:03:46 +0000 http://www.maketecheasier.com/?p=95060#comment-120014 In Chrome, I have the “Don’t allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirects” box checked, but I occasionally get pop-ups anyway. Actually I would call them “pop-unders” because they are there when I close out of Chrome, usually when I shutdown the PC. It’s annoying because the next time startup the PC and open Chrome, the pop-up comes back and I’ve lost all of the tabs that I had open from the previous browser session.
